Oh happy December!

December is here!! (As if you're not aware of this already :) )

Without fail, December's arrival just makes me HAPPY. For starters, there is my birthday. I love my birthday. LOVE. (T-minus one week, y'all!) Then Christmas. Then New Year's Eve. The festivities and sparkle abound and I just love it.

Here is a handful of eye candy that matches my December happiness....

This looks about right for my birthday cake
Nutcracker Ballet. Love.
The best version of the Christmas Carol, imo
Rudolph has been a tradition in my family since I was a tot
Oh the pretty lights
Oh the pretty snow

Oh the pretty lights and the pretty snow

This is downtown Fort Collins, CO, my home!
Bubbly for New Year's, always

Do you love December, too? What are some of your favorite holiday traditions and to-do's?

Happy weekend!!

Let it snow let it snow let it snow!

Winter finally decided to show up! I'm not a cold-weather fan - if I lived someplace where it didn't get below 50 degrees, there would be no complaints from me... BUT! The snow changes things. I get all giddy like a school girl when it snows. (Of course, this attitude shifts considerably when I have to drive more than half a mile anywhere...)

I love how quiet and peaceful it is when the snow is falling. The best time to experience that is at night. Just stand outside in the softly falling flakes and you feel like there is true peace in the world, even if for a moment. I love that.

Today I am grateful for the snow, for the much-needed moisture it brings, for the much-coveted powder it brings the snow-riders up in the high country, and for the moment of peaceful pause it brings this crazy world.

Happy weekend!

I heart the weekend

Oh me oh my, the weekend is here at last!

On tap this weekend...

Sleeping IN. Hot diggety damn, I need some sleep.
Going to see a dance concert, which several friends will be in.
Wine. A margarita. Or three. Oh yes, Jessi needs a cocktail.
Some time with the fella.
Doing my nails. Dressing cute. Doing my hair... daily dance classes and rehearsals don't allow for looking cute. Like ever [*pouts*].

Fashion magazines... oh how I miss them.
Farmer's market. I need me some creamed honey and apples. I see a pie in my future.
Cooking. I miss cooking.

Wow, that's quite a list. It doesn't include my school to-do's... maybe I'm a bit optimistic in my weekend delirium, but whatevs. It's how I roll.

It's s'posed to snow tonight! Our first snow of the season was yesterday morning - so early for the season! - but nothing stuck to the ground. BUT, it's going to get cold tonight, so fingers crossed that when I wake up tomorrow and peek out the curtains, there's a dusting of white. I want to wear a cute sweater, my skinny jeans and fuzzy boots! I'm a warm-weather-sun-worshiper, but I do heart the snow. I can deal with the cold if, and only if, there's snow to accompany it.

And I'm loving the Halloween costume suggestions from everyone! The "frazzled dance choreographer" made me laugh - 'cause I am that frazzled choreographer, ha! And the lovely Kristin suggested one I've always wanted to do, like since high school y'all: Cleopatra. Fun!! Keep 'em comin', and hopefully by October 31 I'll have something figured out.

Happy weekend everyone!! Any fun plans on your agenda??

FINALLY!

I realized yesterday, as I stared out the window of one of my classrooms, that I have the mid-winter blues. However, these are not the typical mid-winter doldrums. I've decided that I have a case of reverse mid-winter blues. What does that even mean, you ask?

Well, you know how some people feel depressed or in a low mood resulting from a lack of sunshine, which typically occurs in the middle of winter when its typically cold and overcast? Okay. Well, what about someone feeling bummed about not getting typical winter weather, in the form of snow? That's me. No joke. Don't get me wrong, I love Colorado's intense sunshine and I'm a sucker for it's warmth on my skin in spring and summer when my arms and legs are bared. Key words there: spring and summer. Also, Colorado is crazy-dry as it is – a water bottle, lip balm and lotion are carry-in-your-purse-or-bag daily necessities if you don't want to shrivel up like a prune. The lack of moisture for weeks and weeks doesn't help matters.

Then a miracle happened!

I was at work when it first started. It was just a light sprinkling, and I nervously held my breath afraid to get too excited, too soon. I was afraid that announcing a snow-sighting would jinx it all away. But then it started to steadily come down, and when the cars in the parking lot began to be blanketed in white, my inhibitions fell away. I started making rounds about the office announcing that it is SNOWING (as if no one else could see it but me!).

I don't think I have to worry anymore about scaring the snow away... its coming down hard. The snowflakes are huge, too, but I find it interesting that they're not the light and fluffy kind normal for this time of year. They're heavy and wet snowflakes, typical of spring snow. Its not surprising, though, considering how abnormal this winter has been.

No matter. I'm just happy its here. And of course I'm jonesin' to play in it - snowshoe, ski, build snowmen, whatever. *sigh* Alas, I have school and work responsibilities. Dare I hope for a snow day tomorrow...?

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, ladies and gents, my prayers for snow were finally answered!! My friend and I did a little happy snow dance tonight as we left rehearsal, snow falling softly on our heads.

This is my favorite kind of snow fall, soft and light and airy. I love it at night, when all the sounds are muffled and softened by it. It's so peaceful, like the whole world is resting.

Snow, glorious snow...

A little dance, a little not

I know this blog is to share my adventures as a dance major, but some days I don't have anything new to say. Let's see, what can I come up with?

Modern went great today, although my poor feet and knees are still consistently getting beat up. Long gone are the days of pretty feet, ya'll. Doing a pedicure is pointless - the paint gets chipped and rubbed off, my toenails often crack and break... The most I ever do is keep the nails short and lotion my feet up so they don't crack and split, which has happened and hurts quite a bit. Lovely image, yes? :P Choreography was a little tough, only because Professor C wanted us to do all sorts of improv, but none of us had the energy or creative juices. We're all tired and ready for break! One more day - I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...

The weather outside is cold and wintry. Surprisingly, I love it! I'm not usually a cold weather fan, but people change moods, I guess. Itty bitty snowflakes keep falling, and I keep begging the clouds to just release them all on us! I want to go up to the mountains and go snowshoeing or sledding or something, then come home for something warm in my tummy... which brings me to the fact that the cold puts me in the mood to cook like crazy. I would totally love to make a batch of my winter minestrone, but I don't have the groceries or the funds to do it right now. Payday tomorrow, whew!

The weather also puts me in the holiday spirit... kinda hard to catch the spirit when it's 75 degrees out there, like it was yesterday. It's November and I live in Colorado, for pete's sake. Today I've wanted to cook, bake, listen to holiday music, go Christmas shopping, the whole bit. I should calm down - Thanksgiving first, Jessi.

I'm at work, so I guess I should get back to it. Ciao for now...
