Getting shiz crossed of my week's to-do list and taking names...
Tour dress rehearsal - CHECK
2 midterms - check and CHECK
Tour Company Office Manager duties - CHECK
Next up...
Choreo my solo & finish group choreo for tomorrow's faculty showing
Catch up with my Costume & Makeup homework (ugh, SO behind...)
And about a thousand other little things that would bore you to tears (if you're not already there...)
Halfway through the week - YES!
The fella and I decided to postpone our li'l weekend getaway 'til after the Student Dance Concert is over (which happens at the end of this month)... I'm pretty much bordering on the edge of crazy these days and will be 'til October 31 with all I need to do, so heading out of town has to wait. Pooh... but it will be all the sweeter after such a crazy month!
And totally unrelated... what the heck am I gonna be for Halloween?!?! This is IMPORTANT... No time (and very little money) to shop, so I'm going to do like the lovely Maegan and create my own... but what is the conundrum... ideas??
Happy Hump Day, y'all!
xoxo J

"Manic" doesn't quite cut it...
My Mondays look something like this:
Class 9 - 1
Work 1-3:30
Tour rehearsal 4 - 7
My rehearsal 7-8
Senior concert rehearsal 8-10
Boy, I love Mondays. Every Monday, baby.
Add to the list for today:
Cross fingers that 1:00 appointment can be moved to next week, so I can...
Find a white-button Michael Jackson-style shirt for Tour rehearsal
Find T a vintage outfit for Tour rehearsal
Finish memorizing speeches for Tour rehearsal
Type up cast lists for Professor C-F for our Aspen tour
Meet with Professor C-F right before Tour rehearsal
Don't freak out about Tour rehearsal, as it is a dress rehearsal today and faculty and friends will be coming to watch...
Tour rules my life, yes??
Ready, set, GO!!!!!!!

The List
Chicago is four days away!! Now that the countdown can be done on one hand, I'm finally getting down to business figuring out all that I need to do in the next few days before I leave.
I don't know about you, but if something is too far out, even by a week, I have a really hard time motivating myself to start checking things off the to-do list. I won't even have a list established. Sure, I'll think about things - "I need to do this" and "don't forget to do that" - but I don't act on any of it until the running-out-of-time-pressure starts to mount. I'm not sure how well this will serve me when I'm planning a wedding someday... the thought of planning a wedding for a year or more overwhelms me... I'll be tickled pink if I can get 'er done in a handful of months (I've known people who have done this and have had beautiful weddings, so I know it's possible)...
But I digress...
There are errands to run, things to buy, apartment things to straighten out, laundry to do... All of these have their own sub-list.
I started compiling my packing list a few days ago, and it's steadily growing. I must have lists. I'm a list girl. I cannot function at the grocery store without a list, even for a quick trip. And I know that if I try to pack for an entire month away without establishing some kind of organized process (via The List), packing will be a nightmare. Of epic proportions.
My goal is to find the fine balance between packing enough but not too much. Yes I want to be cute and I have to leave room for my shopping spoils (look out H&M, a Colorado girl starved for H&M is heading your way), but I also hate overpacking. I learned from my last trip to NYC how much it sucks navigating the airport and subway and buses with too much crap. I remember trying to maneuver myself and my luggage into a corner on the hot, stuffy M60 while the bus was moving (a small-scale circus act) and the bus driver screamed at us all (nerve-wracking) to keep the aisles clear. OMG. I want to be the stylish-and-cute-but-efficient-and-low-maintenance kind of traveler. I'm still learning how to do this.
What outfits do I pack? How can I mix and match? Which shoes do I bring and which do I leave? Do I bring my seashell bikini or my cherry-print one? What hair and body stuff do I bring, and what do I just buy there since I'll be there a month? Since this trip is more than just a fun vacation, I also have to think about all my dance gear, including the rehab goods - athletic tape, Epsom salts, band aids, heating pads, ice packs, massage balls and rollers...
So...
Dance gear
Dance rehab gear
Night on the town gear
Day at the beach gear
Day at a Cubs game gear
Exploring Chicago in heat and humidity gear
What else, what else??
Seriously, this is overwhelming. Must consult The List!

And now back to our regularly scheduled program...
Student Dance Concert went great! I got very good feedback about my piece from family, friends, school peers and people I didn't know. People keep telling me it was an audience favorite! Wow, I'm very flattered. And excited!
I'm also getting feedback on the more profound side of things, too, which I'm eating up. I really appreciate people who engage themselves and let themselves really think and feel as they watch. One friend totally understood my message (see my previous post), which is always exciting for an artist. My hip hop teacher, who I gave props to in the program notes, told me that he really appreciated the dynamic qualities of the movement, the costumes and the story told through my choreography. He felt this was lacking in the majority of the other pieces as well as a lot of other pieces he's seen recently at other universities and dance concerts. Wow. Again, I'm completely flattered.
I'm sure there were people who didn't like it, as I can't please everyone. And that's okay. But I'm really hoping and crossing my fingers that the faculty are not included in this group, as tomorrow I will find out which student pieces they are choosing to include in the Spring Dance Concert in just a couple weeks. Having your piece selected is kind of a big deal, and great for the portfolio. [Keep your fingers crossed!!] Dare I say that I think I might actually have a decent shot at being one of the selected??? I hope the good feedback is reaching the faculty... I'm trying not to dwell on being picked, though, because its not a guarantee... but I really want to be picked!!
In the meantime, now that the concert is over and I can think about other things, I can return to all the things I ignored last week. I have my theater research design project due on Tuesday (my prof moved the due date from last Thursday to Tuesday - he's the man!). I have an audition tomorrow for which I need to prepare a short solo for (I'll fill you in on that later). And good lord my apartment is a mess! And I need to do laundry. And buy groceries.
Oy.

Getting things done
I've been busy all day taking care of things on the to-do list. I sent out a couple emails. Bought a mask and supplies for my mask/duet project. Spent three hours at the Wild Boar (my current fave coffee shop) working on my Choreography journal. I just took a yoga/meditation break, and now back to work. Items remaining on today's list: write a blog post (check!), revise my mask sketch, find a song for the duet, and maybe write a little more on my Modern paper. We'll see what I get through by bedtime...
